Hey everyone! It's been a while. I did a design project to procrastinate today and I wanted to share it with you!

First, the finished product:

This is a digitized version of some hand lettering I did to pass the time this summer. 

Below is a picture of the original drawing:

I took this image with my cellphone and then brought it into Photoshop to crop it, get all the letters lined up and centered as best I could, and change the contrast so it would be super easy for me to trace in Illustrator:

Then I traced each letter with the pen tool in Illustrator to make the linework as close to the original as possible, but with cleaner lines. I added some horizontal lines next to each "is" to bring the piece together and make it feel like a whole. Et voilà!

Life Update! Yay!

Dear readers,

So I still suck at blogging. That didn't really change at all. However! I have a tumblr now and I'm far more obsessed with that than ever writing things on here, so you should check that shit out! I'm going to try to make it a point to blog every week, like on Friday or something, so hopefully that works out. I'll set a reminder on my laptop. I don't have classes on Friday (yay!) so I just spend the whole day doing Differential Equations homework (not yay!), so blogging would be a lovely interlude.

What a Twist!

Guys guys guys, I'm doing it! For reals!

In a surprising turn of events, I've actually stuck to my resolutions! Of the resolutions I listed last time, I've been following 1-7 almost entirely, and it's the end of January! That's actually a record for me.
The only discrepancy is that I have been drinking coffee and tea in addition to water, but still no soda! I've been going to the gym like it's my job and eating a lot better. As far as sleeping goes, I've been doing a lot better but not perfect. However, I've been keeping up with my schoolwork like never before, which is probably because I actually like my classes this year.
My thesis course, Graphic Design for Corporate Identity, is actually super interesting but it's going to be a crapload of work. At least I really like doing what we're doing. For our first project we were matched up with a partner and are working on designing a logo for them, which is really exciting because that's what I want to be doing in real life. I'll post the final here when I'm done but I'm pretty proud of what I have so far and the ideas I've come up with.
Tangential thought: It might be time for me to start adding photos to my posts again on a regular basis. Surprise again! Lots of text is boring and you probably hate reading so much with no break. Sorry, kids.
In other news, Differential Equations is way harder than I anticipated but mostly because I took Calc 2 in Fall of 2010 and haven't looked at an ounce of math since then. Everyone in class is casually deriving and integrating the crap out of things and I'm just like, "Oh god oh no, where did that e come from????" Hopefully eventually I'll figure out how numbers work again. At least I take pretty notes.

It's always interesting to tell someone I'm taking DiffEq because this is literally how it always goes down:
Me: [Listing classes]... and DiffEq.
Engineering Student: Oh, do you have Boudjelkha?
Me: Yeah.
Engineering Student: You'll be fine, it's super easy.

Me: [Listing classes]... and DiffEq.
Arts Student: WHY!??!?!?? SWEET BABY JESUS, WHY!??? JUST TAKE GEOLOGY!! YOU'RE GOING TO DIEEEEEEE
Me: Thanks.

So I think for my own sanity I'm going to believe the engineers. Hopefully the fact that I went to a math and science high school will let DiffEq seep into my brain and just hang out there and I'll know everything eventually. I can dream.

Resolution and Resolve (or the Lack Thereof)

So resolutions kind of suck.

I make them and I don't think I have ever stuck to a single one I've ever made in my life.

For example, this year I was all, "Oh yeah I won't drink anything besides water!" and before I know it I'd downed two cups of coffee and a soda before 3pm January 1st. Good job sticking to your guns, kid! It's not that I'm consciously neglecting my resolution (in this case), I'm just running my life in autopilot and didn't realize that it actually takes work to consciously change the things that I do by habit every day. SO, here is the list of resolutions that most likely will not last me until next week. I keep telling myself that I haven't started them yet to make myself feel better, but let's be real, I just have no inner strength. Which brings me to my list:

1. Get some inner strength and motivation to do things I don't want to do.
2. Similarly, STOP PROCRASTINATING (I'm the worst).
3. Actually go to the gym. (Having G as a partner will really help this because she can kick my ass and already goes to the gym like a good person.) This includes eating better.
4. Don't drink anything besides water. (This one has some exceptions, like birthdays, including my 21st. Include a less-than-excited "woo".)
5. Get a normal person's sleep schedule. (Harder for me than it sounds. The whole sleeping from 4am-4pm thing isn't going to fly when I have three 8am classes this semester. Oy.)
6. Actually care about school work and do my best on them instead of taking the easy way out most of the time.
7. Related: build up my portfolio.
8. Get a summer internship!
9. Graduate. (This one is kind of a freebie since it's already pretty set up. Only 11 more months!)
10. I can't think of anything else right now but stopping before 10 would've killed me.

So as I said before, these haven't "officially" started yet, I guess going to school is my new year starting-point. Some of these things are reasonable and some are not really so much. Anyway, I'm going to try to stick to them and hopefully eventually they'll just be habit and I won't have to physically stop myself from eating really crappy food all the time (pretty difficult in college but we'll see).

Good luck everyone with your resolutions! However plausible they may be. Hopefully by this time next year I won't be such a lazy child. And will have a degree. And a job. And be spectacularly toned.
I've already got the wishful thinking part down.

Farewell, 2012!

You'd have to say it like "Farewell, two-thousand twelll.......ve" for it to really work but just go with it.

So, like I said I would yesterday, I'm getting back to you about Mindy Kaling's book "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns)". It was wonderful! SO many of the things she said I really connected with and now I feel like I'm best bros with Mindy, so that's pretty cool. For example, she has always had an aversion to athletic things and would rather read on the bleachers than ever participate in gym class (my life), she (obviously) loves comedy, and just doesn't know why we can't have a standard definition for the term "hooking up" (a conversation I've had with my friend G numerous times), and we have the same definition for the aforementioned term. I won't tell you what it is though, so now you have to read her book! HA! But really it's great and it's fairly short so no one has an excuse.

In other news, it's the last day of 2012, which I think is pretty great. This year was kind of weird and it'll be nice to move to a year where I can start all over, sort of. The only stupid ting is that 2013 is the grossest number ever and I'm mad that by graduating early I've moved from Class of 2014 (isn't that such a nice looking, respectable number?) to Class of 2013 (ew. just look at that 3). Aesthetics of numerals aside, I'm super pumped to be graduating a semester early. I don't know really how it happened, where I transferred and everything, but I'm certainly not complaining. Fingers crossed for jobs and other cool things!

I think that's about it for today's update. I'm cleaning my house like a madwoman trying to ring in the new year in something not so much resembling a pig sty, but one can only do so much.

'Sweezy's Back!

Woah. Okay. So. I haven't written in over a year and there are some good school-related and some not-so-good procrastination reasons for that. So overall, sorry. My b. I suck at this.

Yesterday I read Tina Fey's "Bossypants" and it was absolutely everything I hoped it would be. Ms. Fey is one of my role models and reading her story in her own words was amazing. As my family can confirm, I spent all of yesterday curled up in a chair in the corner of my grandparents' living room giggling to myself. While reading. I wasn't just sitting by myself giggling at nothing. Thanks. Anyway, read that book if you haven't already, it's great. Tonight I'll read Mindy Kaling's "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)" and I'm super excited about that too, so I'll let you know. I had to stop writing halfway through that last sentence because I realized I had left my Kindle in the car and I needed to get it before I forgot again and had to go out into two-foot snowdrifts at 3am to get it. Maine.

Anywho, things are different nowadays, I'm going to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York now, which I think I said in my last post, but that was over a year ago so who can say.
Well, turns out that by taking a second to look through my post history, I can say. I did tell you, so stop asking about it. It's fine, and I'm graduating a semester early so *yaaaaaay* to that. I don't know anything about my major, but c'est la vie. Speaking of French, I suck at it these days and I'm mad. Boo RPI for having no language classes. Luckily Duolingo exists and is beautiful and I love it (They recently added Portuguese and Italian in addition to the German, French, Spanish, and English they already had as learning options! Freakin' sweet!). 

Other news: 

• The MacBook Pro I ordered is coming tomorrow and I'm going to flip a biscuit, I'm so excited.
• ALSO it's New Year's Eve tomorrow, but you knew that, you're a smart person. You also probably own a calendar and, unrelatedly, are glad the world didn't actually end last week (and if you're like myself you never thought it would in the first place, but dream on, dreamers). 
• I just finished "A Dance with Dragons", the fifth installment of George R.R. Martin's beautiful A Song of Ice and Fire series (should I put that in quotations? hmm). SO MUCH INTENSITY I CAN'T HANDLE IT. And I can't wait like six years for the next one to come out, so speed it up, Georgey. 
• My current internet addictions: Amazon Mechanical Turk, Neopets (don't judge me, I'm bored and my 10-year-old self needs to get a game trophy), Pinterest, Designspiration, and Netflix.
• My sister got Just Dance 4 for Christmas so that's entertainment for the whole family that I would highly recommend. (Part of the entertainment is watching your family try to figure out hip-hop dance moves.)

That's all for now, I think. I can smell garlic downstairs, so I'm pretty sure that's my cue to go eat a bunch. I'll be back soon. Probably in 2013 but hopefully not as late as December  :)

Sweezy Summer Update

So I'm officially the worst blogger in the history of the blogosphere. Sorry to everyone who is even still reading this that I never update at all! Excuse time: I've been working six days a week and nothing super interesting happens to me in the time between.
Anyway, here's an update on my life:
I've transferred from BU to RPI and I'll be starting there in the fall so I have to think up a sweet new name for my blog. I'm now an Electronic Media, Arts, and Communication (EMAC) major, which means that I get to learn graphic design, animation, communication, management, and design in bits and pieces, but my main specialization at this point in time is graphic design.
Last month I bought a Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch graphics tablet that I'll need for my classes, and I've started playing around with it every once in a while. I've been putting my favorite creations on my flickr. Here's a little preview in the form of a pig from Minecraft:

Aside from tablet-ing, I've been wasting the days away Stumbling in the Food/Cooking topic, and have become obsessed with foodgawker.com, a brilliant and delicious little waste of time that has allowed me to build up a large folder of bookmarked recipes. As you may have noticed, I've also been experimenting with adding links into my posts (or post, I should say). Oh, what one can learn when one actually opens one's eyes!

This post was going to be a lot longer and ended up being more like pulling teeth than blogging for fun, so here we are. Once the school year gets back up and running I'll probably be able to blog more often (a factor of procrastination rather than productivity in any sense).  As for tonight, I'm absolutely exhausted and I need some sleep to power me through my next six-day work-week. It'll be the second-to-last, though, so that's a bittersweet thought!

Next up on the blog's agenda: either a post raving about eggs and how freaking wonderful they are, or a back-to-school special. Time will tell.

Cupcakes So Good You Could Die...

Every year I make cupcakes for my boyfriend's birthday. They're usually just plain vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting. I was ready to make the same old batch of 24 when, a week before his birthday, I had the most wonderful brainsplosion at work. KAHLUA BROWNIE CUPCAKES. Both the boyfriend and I love Kahlua brownie ice cream, so I figured I'd at least attempt to find a recipe worthy of the birthday cupcake throne. Now, I would've documented my cupcake-making experience, but I've been out of blog-mode for so long that I just totally forgot. Some notes about this recipe:

• It only makes 22 cupcakes, rather than the standard 24, which is a little weird, but these are the richest cupcake/brownie hybrids you will ever eat in your entire life, so deal with it.
• I used around a cup less of confectioner's sugar than the recipe calls for, but since it's added as needed, that shouldn't really be an issue. 
• The frosting ended up being this moussy, cheesecakey(almost), and delicious freaking mass that I wanted to eat all at once. I say mass because I might've made mine a bit dryer than I should've (even without the whole measurement of sugar) so it was kind of hard to spread, and might be impossible to pipe, but a little definitely goes a long way. 
• When you hear brownie cupcake you might expect the cake to be dry, but even a few days after being made the cake was still moist and amazing. Bonus points!

Seriously, once you eat one of these you'll be full and sugared-out for like three years. It's awesome.

Marathon Monday!?

What a ridiculously awesome holiday. Thank you, Boston, for being so freakin' cool! I stood amongst literally thousands of drunk college kids screaming for people they didn't even know. It was awesome, like the Mardi Gras of Beantown!

PS Sorry that I haven't posted in a month and a half. I'm a loser with school things to do. Also I rediscovered The Big Bang Theory, so I've been watching that since the beginning of season 3. 

Simmer Down, Y'all.

So. Snowstorms. Every week? More like super weak. Everyone needs to calm down about the snow. This is New England. It's not a big deal.
Personally, I'm getting pretty sick of people complaining about "how much snow!!" we're getting in Boston. 21" is not a lot of snow. My sophomore year in high school, my town got 186" of snow. For those of you who can't do math and/or don't have a calculator handy, that's 15.5 feet. That means your first floor is now just about as bright as a root cellar and the plows don't even bother. But you know what? People suck it up and go where they need to go.
So basically, when we're talking about 2 feet, it's like calling a bittersweet nonpareil a three-tier triple-chocolate cake of evil. Or complaining about a breeze to someone who lives in a freezer.
tl;dr: Calm down and quit pretending you're so busy all the time. Why do you walk so fast, anyway? You're not going to die, you're probably just going to get school off because Boston is super inefficient with snow removal. Or you might get stuck on the T... but you still wouldn't die.

Be-Boppin on Photoshop

So recently it's been ridiculously cold in Boston. (I got back on Monday night and it's been snowing like crazy almost the whole time!) This coldness makes me very unmotivated to go out and around and take pictures for you guys, unfortunately. So this weekend I decided to learn more Photoshop techniques. I'm pretty proud of most of them, so I'd like to share my progress with you guys! Hopefully soon enough I'll be taking pictures again and actually edit them before I put them on here so they don't look so stupid.

Merry [Early] Christmas!!

Hello everyone! So this is the official BeeSweezy Christmas Edition!! YAYY! It actually snowed a considerable amount last night so it was a white [early] Christmas here at home, which made it super awesome. We did our family's Christmas early because we'll be traveling until two days after real Christmas to our extended families. 

Anyway, such an early Christmas requires early preparation; wrapping! I decided to go with a color scheme this year: blue/silver for the boyfriend and red/gold/green for the family.

I got really into wrapping the presents and made fancy little flourishes to each one. They may have ended up looking slightly garish, but hey, I tried.

Ho Ho Home for the Holidays!

So I haven't posted in a while, even though I've been home since Saturday afternoon. Sorry about that :( This actually won't be a real post either because my pictures are on my camera at home and I'm elsewhere until Thursday night or possibly Monday, but HANG TIGHT because it's going to be a superChristmasholidayaganza!!!!!
That's right.

So far I've decorated three trees, drank two cups of hot cocoa (not enough by far), and wrapped about 7 presents. And a partridge in a pear tree. Plus I did my laundry today, so bonus points for me! Speaking of bonus I just figured out (finally) how to get the basic Microsoft games onto my boyfriend's computer (helloooo minesweeper!) which weren't installed for some stupid reason (damn you Windows 7), which basically means that I searched "why don't I have basic Microsoft games on my Windows 7" and read the first answer that came up. I lovee Google. [Sidenote: I'm not using his computer to ignore him, he's wrapping my present and obviously I can't be there so I'm bored and am super addicted to finding those mines!]
Aaanyway, on the agenda still: wrapping about 10 more presents, baking/decorating/devouring Christmas cookies, seeing Tron (unrelated), drinking more hot cocoa, some egg nog, taking a last-minute trip to the mall, opening presents, and making a real blog post.

Hopefully those things will go smoothly, and you can expect some real stuff /potentially/ on Thursday night after fambly Christmas is done. Happy Holidays!! <3

A Guide to Studying for Finals

Today marks the first day of the study period. I guess technically it started on Saturday, but who seriously studies on the weekend? No one. Unless you're like my suitemate and had a final this morning. Yuck!
Anyway, This terrible day means that I actually have to stop procrastinating and start studying for my Thursday and Saturday finals (but guess what I'm doing right now by posting this... yeah). I have three finals coming up and far too much time to study for them, which means that I'm probably going to be not very productive. Oh well. I'm going to try, though, don't get me wrong. I even made out a list of my study tools to walk you through my study process.
Step 1. Assemble supplies:

• Enriched Calculus textbook
• History of Architecture textbook
• Fifth semester French workbook
• Fifth semester French reading

• Notebooks containing the notes you've taken for the past 3.5 months in class
• Planner
• Folders containing worksheets/essays/graded work/tests/etc.

• Monstrously gigantic laptop
• Assorted pens, pencils, highlighters
• Large eraser
• Post-It notes
• iPod (not pictured)
• Index cards (not pictured)

Step 2: Study...?

Note: This will be a tedious process. DO NOT get frustrated and smash aforementioned computer. Work MUST be done at desk, where ethernet cord cannot reach, otherwise you WILL get distracted by playing typing games or solitaire or Facebook. 

Step 3: ?

Step 4: Profit.

Restaurant Review: Cambridge 1

Today my roommate and I went out to lunch at Fenway's Cambridge, 1. pizza place. Holycrapohmygosh it was the best pizza of all time. I knew this previous to today's endeavor, however (heh, rhyme), because I went with my boyfriend and his family before a Regina Spektor concert at the House of Blues last September.

Anyway, their pizza is absolutely fantastic. Choosing between the items on their menu was seriously one of the most difficult lunch decisions I've made in a while. I ended up getting the baby arugula, fontina, and parmigiano pizza, which was, as you can see, basically a salad on top of pizza crust, but it was SO GOOD. In the background is my roommate's pizza, which was artichoke, roasted tomatoes, goat cheese, and spinach. YumYum!

Seriously. If you're ever in the Fenway area, this place gets 5 stars by me (out of 5). The service was super fast, too! Amazing. :) <3

Hot Like Apple Pie!

Okay, so today was freakishly warm. Last night I was mentally prepping myself for the a cappella performance I had in Faneuil Hall today. I had an entire outfit decided, which consisted of a long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, coat, scarf, hat, gloves, leggings, jeans, thick thick socks, and kicks. I would be the toastiest person there!
Then, when I woke up it turned out to be 45 degrees all day and the only extra warmth I needed was a jacket. You'd better believe that I still brought a scarf, hat, and mittens with me in my purse just in case.
Anyway, the performance got cancelled, and I ended up hanging out in Quincy Market for a good amount of time.
The decorations in Government center were so nice and cheery that I thought I'd share some pictures with you!!! Enjoy this small gallery :)

The Return of the Sweez'

Hello everybody!!! Sorry that this is about... oh, I don't know... 2 months late. I've been crazy busy with homework and a cappella and unnecessary reading assignments and figuring out what in the world to do with my life. You know, the usual. So flash forward to now, and it's Holiday Dinner night at Shelton Dining Hall!! Hoooray!!! It was decorated soo festively and made me want to go home even sooner. Now that my week is essentially done, I have study period from Saturday through Thursday, when my first two finals are. Then I have another measly final on Saturday and I'm ready to Amtrak it on out of here!
Since the pictures that I post today weren't taken specifically for the blog, the quality is suuuuper low and lame, so I'm sorry for that :\ First off, the Holiday Dinner!

SO that was delicious and wonderful. There was even a cheese bar!!!! That's right, folks. There was also some sort of chicken and sirloin and tons of gingerbread :) It's holiday time and I'm sooo excited!!!

To digress from the magic of winter, here are some pictures that I took while I was at the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) two months ago to tide you over until I find something cool to post for tomorrow...

There was a fashion exhibit going on at the time, which meant that random mannequins were all over the museum sporting some form of 20th century frock. The dresses were pretty cool, but my friend and I were not able to look around the entire museum, because we got there at 4 (thank you, MBTA), and the MFA closes at 5.

Another huge exhibit was a bunch of ancient Asian artwork and sculptures. There were tons of Buddhas in one alcove that was very poorly lit and pretty creepy, but I took a picture of one, just for you.

Apart from the Buddhas, there were tons of scrolls and ancient poetry and paintings. The exhibit was actually huge and it took us a good portion of 45 minutes to walk through it all (and then figure out how to escape). As we caroused the more modern sections, we saw a really cool wall (aka giant artwork) that was right across from the gift shop.

That's cool, MFA. I can roll with that. 

Then, as we were perusing the gift shop in search of, I don't know, sweet gifts(?), the lights started shutting off and we were quickly ushered to the nearest exit and thrown out in the pouring rain. Not cool, MFA. Not cool. 

Anywho, that's all the pictures I really have, which is super lame and I'm so sorry that I missed fall completely. I'm such a bad blogger, guys. I promise that I will make an effort to bring you only the best of what goes on here in the life of B-Sweez', so keep your eyes and ears peeled! (But don't forget to wear hats and scarves and mittens because it is getting SOOO cold in Beantown :((( booo!) 

P.S. I'm probably going to end up re-doing the whole blog thing this coming week because it's study period and I'll be procrastinating at one point or another. Plus, let's face it, Bay State Road looks exactly the same all the way down it, sooo I'll be trying to incorporate some things that don't necessarily stick to the theme. Or maybe I'll change the theme. Don't read this, I'm rambling. Well, yeah. Birthday Bashful

Oh man. Sorry for not posting anything in so many days!! I've been ultra busy with school work and figuring out what major I should pursue and which T lines I should take, etc. ANYWAY! Today is the extra-special birthday edition of BTEB, so my pictures are birthday themed, mostly. :)

I woke up this morning to find my room completely decorated with streamers and a present next to my bed thanks to my wonderful roomie. The present consisted of mostly "Happy Birthday" garb such as a crown, pin, beads, etc. The room was another matter altogether...

The decorations everywhere were wonderful, though maybe a little bit hindering to my daily routine. For example, this banner that was strung from one corner of my dresser to the other which made opening the drawers rather difficult, and the "Happy 1st Birthday!!" streamers covering the entire mirror on the back of the door made it hard to make sure I didn't look like a hobo before I left :P (Apparently my roommate didn't know that the streamers said "1" until she hung them up, but that's okay. It was a nice surprise, if not a few years off :)

Since I forgot to take pictures at my birthday dinner at Chipotle, I took some pictures of the sweet decorations the roomie and I have in our dorm room.

I LOVE my star lamp, which, paired with my roommate's 'tree-light' gives our room a wonderful glow that is much more favorable than the stark white fluorescent light from the ceiling. It makes our room quite zen, which I love.

These Victorian frame wall stickers have been, in fact, not very sticky and have been taped up multiple times. Our room has switched from humid to freezing so many times from the broken window, it's no wonder we can't hang up those darn Command hooks!! Sorry again for this post being both so long after the last and so late at night.

Same Route, New Things :)

So I've decided that, starting tomorrow, I'm taking a different route home from class. I've taken pictures of almost everything on Bay State at this point, and unless anything remarkable comes along, that's it for that neighborhood. Until the leaves start changing! :)

Fence halfway to CAS

This fence, outside what I think is a residence for BU, marks the halfway point between my dorm and my classes. It's also probably the most easily recognizable fence on Bay State, so it's nice to have as a landmark :) There are all sorts of vine-like details to the fence at the posts that jut out more than the rest, and it looks pretty cool.

Wonderfully colorful bike

Sorry to put another bike up on here for the second day in a row, but I just thought it was so cute! Most bikes in Boston are this style, rather than the mountain bikes that people would have at home.

Unique brownstone

I love this brownstone. It looks so different than the other brownstones, and I don't know why, but it just looks really cool to me. I think it's especially because of the sweet roof bit that sticks out. All of the other brownstones have a basically flat façade. 

On a brownstone house

This brownstone is so cool. Obviously it's not brown, but that's okay. It's the house of some doctor, and not really a BU residence. There's a zen-like outdoor area with this sweet plaque thingy on the outside of the house, and I wish I knew what it stood for...
